Sevilla are the only side to have avoided defeat at the Camp Nou in the league this season

Barcelona have the opportunity to reduce the gap on Liga leaders Real Madrid to seven points on Saturday — until Los Merengues play Malaga the following day, at least.

However, they will face a stern test in their bid to do so as they travel to face Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Sevilla are the only side to have avoided defeat at the Camp Nou in the league this season. The Rojiblancos secured a goalless draw in Catalonia when they faced the Spanish and European champions there in October.

That point was claimed thanks in no small part to a heroic performance from goalkeeper Javi Varas, who saved a Lionel Messi penalty in the eighth and final minute of stoppage time as Seville finished the match with nine men.

The Andalusian side held Barca to a 1-1 draw in the corresponding fixture last season, while they beat them 3-1 on their own patch in the first leg of the season-opening Spanish Supercopa last term. Barca went on to win the second leg 4-0 and claim the trophy.

Messi will travel to Seville in fearsome scoring form. The World Player of the Year has scored an incredible 13 goals in his last five games, including a record-breaking five in one match against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

With a dozen games to go in La Liga, defeat for Barca and a victory for Real would all but kill off their vain title hopes.
