2015: Taraba Govt Refutes Campaign Reports
Taraba State government has refuted reports in some national dailies that the state’s Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, has set up a campaign committee ahead of the 2015 general elections.
In a statement on Monday, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Aaron Artimas, described the reports as misleading and designed to paint the acting governor as one who did not comply with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) directives on electoral campaigns.
The statement read in part: “I wish to state clearly for record purposes that I did not speak or tell any journalist that a campaign committee has been set up. The state acting governor has not informed anyone of his political intention for 2015, neither has he set up any campaign committee in that respect.
“The report is part of the ongoing campaign of calumny against the acting governor, sponsored by people who are bent on disrupting the peace of Taraba State. The tone of the report shows clearly where it’s coming from.”
The state government is not aware of any rally holding in any part of the state. The acting governor has been busy developing Taraba State and reporting to his principal, Governor Danbaba Suntai, who is recovering fast from the ill-fated plane crash.”
