400 persons displaced as two Tiv communities clash over land
No fewer than 400 persons were reportedly displaced yesterday in Benue State after crisis erupted between two communities, Shangev Ya and Mbakyaa over land dispute.
It was gathered that about 300 thatched houses were reportedly razed in the crisis.
DailyPost learnt that problem began a fortnight ago when some people from Mbakyaa allegedly encroached on the land of the Shangev Ya people.
In the ensuing rivalry, over 20 persons were reportedly injured but no life was lost.
Resident said the two warring communities that share common boundaries have been engaged in the disagreement over land matters as efforts to resolve the squabble had met brick walls.
Meanwhile, refugees from the crisis areas have relocated to neighboring towns of Adikpo, the headquarters of the council to seek refuge, while others have moved to their relatives in towns like Katsina-Ala and Gboko.
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ezeala, disclosed that normalcy has returned to the communities following the intervention of law enforcement officers.
Ezeala confirmed that no life was lost in the crisis.
