Greek Football League side, an equivalent of the second tier, has presented new Gambian signing Mamut Saine, ahead of the 2014/15 season. The club at the weekend announced the capture of the 21-year-old by describing it as their “new Black Diamond.”
Gambia Sports Online first broke the news of the former Seaview central midfielder’s move to Athletic Club Fokikos. Standing at 1.82 meters tall, Saine is further described by the Amfissa based outfit the perfect No. 10 as they sought to fight for a place in the top flight of Greek football.
Saine, a full international for The Gambia was part of the 2009 generation that won gold at the African U-17 championship in Algeria and had as well played for the national U-20 team. He started his senior career with Seaview in the domestic Gambian league before playing in Tunisia for the past two seasons. He joined from Club Athletic de Bizertin in the top flight Tunisian league and having previously played part of last season at ES Metlaoui, on loan from Bizertin.
The club did not give much detail about the extent of the Gambian’s deal, but according to Gambia Sports Online, Saine had signed a five-year contract with Bizertin in 2012, after terminating his deal by mutual consent to enable him move to Greece on a free- transfer.
The medium quoted Saine’s manager, Bakary Njie, founder and CEO of Begloball, a sport-marketing agency that is based in Germany, who said the former Seaview midfielder couldn’t let this chance away and he’s ready to introduce himself into European football.
“Mamut will be taking this opportunity with AC Fokikos to introduce himself to European soccer and will use his time there to prove his talent to the soccer ,å because he is a real talent,” he added.
