AFCON 2013: Dangote shells out N130m for Nigeria Super Eagles
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have received a cash windfall of $82,000.00 about (N130 million) from business mogul Aliko Dangote for reaching the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Dangote, has an estimated net worth of $11.2 billion USD as of March 2012.
Based in Nigeria, he is the owner of the Dangote Group, which has interests in commodities with operations in his homeland and several other countries in Africa, including Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa and Zambia.
Dangote is ranked by Forbes Magazine as the 76th richest person in the world, is the second richest man in africa, and the richest person in Nigeria.
His cash boost to the two-time African champions will come as a boost to the team ahead of Sunday’s final against Burkina Faso in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile the team has arrived a in Johannesburg, South Africa to begin preparations for the competition’s showpiece game on Sunday.
The Super Eagles arrived at the soccer city on Thursday afternoon.
The team will to receive an even greater boost as the Nigeria President, Goodluck Jonathan is expected in Johannesburg to cheer the side to victory against Burkina Faso’s Stallions.
President Jonathan was at the Eagles’ training camp in Abuja on September 5, 2012 ahead of their final 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia and promised he would be in South Africa should the team reach the final.
< p> “Let me encourage you that we will do our best for you and provide all you need. I will personally like to be in South Africa to watch the final match of the competition but for that to be a possibility, you must qualify for the tournament,” the President said.
Sunday’s final at the FNB Stadium gets underway at 7pm.
