The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has emerged as the best university in Nigeria for the fourth time and dropped from eight in Africa to 20th.

The ranking was done by cybermetrics Lab-CSIC, based in Spain.

OAU Public Relations Officer, Mr. Biodun Olarewaju, said the ranking goes a long way to determine the quality of the university.

Olarewaju said, “According to the latest ranking released in July, 2014 on its website :http//, Obafemi Awolowo University has been adjudged to have continuously recorded excellence in its area of research, academic, University governance and extensive deployment of ICT for its operations.

“This is the first time that any Nigerian University would be so ranked and rated the first and the best for four times running, laying to rest any contention from any quarter. The extensive use of Information Communication Technology in all facets of life in the university played a major role.

“Other Universities and Corporate bodies/organizations should avail themselves presence of Cloud Computing, consisting of 7.7 Terabyte (TB) Cloud Server for application; Telepresence Facilities for Communication and Distance Learning and twin-1,500-seater e-testing facilities in OAU.”
