Ali Khalif Galeyr is the new president of Khatumo state

Somali Member of Parliament Dr. Ali Khalif Galeyr has been elected as new president of the semi autonomous regional state of Khaatumo in Sool province Northern Somalia.

Controversial Dr. Galeyr gathered 21 votes while his predecessor and closest contender Mohamed Yussuf Jama Indha-Sheel garnered 10 votes.

Former regional state president Mohamed Yussuf Indha-Sheel congratulated Dr. Ali Khalif and promised to work with the new president.

Dr. Galeyr once served as the Prime Minister of Somalia in the transitional federal government in 2000.

Khatumo regional state shares contested border with self declared state of Somali land in the North.
