Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Tam David- West, has described the emergence of John Odigie-Oyegun as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the best thing that has happened to the party.
David-West in a chat with Daily Independent, described the former Edo State Governor, as a principled man that is capable of leading the party in the right direction with 2015 on sight.
“I have a close relationship with Oyegun when he was a permanent secretary in a federal ministry and I can tell you that he is the best among those that indicated interest to be the chairman of the mega party APC,” he said.
Noting that Tom Ikimi, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), was a good choice, David-West however maintained that Oyegun is the best.
He commended the leadership of the party for holding a rancour free national convention despite the effort of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to thwart it.
The former Minister further opined that former military Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, remains the best person to rule the country.
He expressed surprise over the sentiments against Buhari, saying leadership has nothing to do with age and religion but the ability to deliver good governance.
Responding to views that Buhari is rigid, David-West said “Is Buhari more rigid than Olusegun Obasanjo and other leaders? Any leader that has no firmness or principle in thinking cannot be called a good leader.”
