Arsenal target Doumbia in talks with a Premier League club
Rennes midfielder Tongo Doumbia has emerged as a possible to target for Arsenal as an alternative to Yann M’Vila and the Malian has confirmed that talks have begun with a Premier League club about a possible transfer.
Doumbia, who stands at 6ft 3in, told Le 10 Sport: “There are discussions. My agent is taking care of that – it is nice but a transfer requires all parties agreeing to it and now we are talking with Rennes.
“And this is not that I don’t want to play with Rennes but this is the Premier League, it is a league that really attracts me. I think I have a playing style suited to the Premier League.
“My desire is to play in the Premier League, for its atmosphere in the stadiums and the fans. If it were up to me I would be playing in England next season.
“I am due to resume training on Monday, but I hope everything will be fixed shortly.”
After reports of M’Vila’s poor discipline and volatility while playing for France at Euro 2012, Arsene Wenger is understood to be having second thoughts about signing the player.
Doumbia is a similar player to M’Vila and plays alongside the Frenchman at Rennes but would be available at a significantly lower price.
According to RMC Sport a Premier League club has submitted a £2.5million bid for Doumbia – believed to be either Aston Villa or Everton – though Arsenal are believed to be closely monitoring the situation.
