Members of the Boko Haram sect reportedly attacked Dalwa in Borno State on Thursday, killed scores of villagers and burnt several houses.

However, there are still conflicting reports over the said attack.

While some sources described it as a military action intended to get rid of Boko Haram members, who have been attacking travelers from the place, others said the sect members launched the attack because youths from the area had joined the civilian JTF.

It was gathered some of the sect members, who ran away from the community, regrouped and carried out the attack.

A local security man in Maiduguri, who always visited Dalwa every Friday for the market day, however, told our correspondent that although he did not go to Dalwa yesterday (Friday), he learnt that the market held.

He doubted if the attack could have come from the Boko Haram sect members themselves, noting that most of them found Dalwa to be their second home around Maiduguri, the state capital.

“I cannot tell you that Dalwa was attacked, I have not gone there in the last two weeks.

“The youths in Dalwa also did not join the civilian JTF for the fact that they know the sect members. If they carry arms against them, there will be serious problem in that village.

“I believe Dalwa is well known to all security operatives as the second home of Boko Haram; it is just that they don’t want to act and these people are the ones attacking travelers along Damboa, Biu road”, he said.
