The chief of Foni Bondali District has once again reiterated the  call for Gambians to actively partake in the national drive to achieve food self-sufficiency in the next two years under the banner, “Vision 2016 Agenda”.

Speaking during a meeting with the alkalolu of the district at his homestead, Bullenghat over the weekend, Chief Bakary Dembo Badjie stressed the need for the entire Gambian populace to join the road towards the attainment of the agenda. “The attainment of Vision 2016 is not a one man thing, but requires the contribution of everyone,” he emphasised.

Badjie reiterated the need for people to venture in areas such as agriculture, forestry and fisheries so that the target could be met. He stressed that Gambians have been depending on imported food for decades, and that it is now time for the people to start feeding themselves on homegrown food.

“If every Gambian takes the initiative seriously as his or her own, we can produce enough food for our needs with a surplus for export,” he concluded.
