Chenda Claims Credit for TIZ K3.3 Million Graft Exposure
Local government minister Emmanuel Chenda has moved to claim credit for the expose by Transparency International Zambia over the K3.3 million theft scandal at the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
TIZ recently blew the whistle over the looting of K3.3 million Constituency Development Funds in two constituencies and have since prompted the Drug Enforcement Commission to restrict some properties and freeze accounts.
Executive Director Goodwell Lungu said six officers had been sent on leave but lamented the big shots at the ministry that included two Permanent Secretaries had been spared punishment with investigative officers dilly dallying over the matter.
However, Chenda who has been quiet until Transparency International revealed the theft said that government had been aware of the theft and had alerted the investigative wings.
“We were aware of this incident, it is not correct that TIZ is the one who unearthed the scandal we were on top of things and alerted the investigative wings,” Chenda claimed.
