DURBAN – Hundreds of Christians have taken to the streets of Durban, to call on world and religious leaders to take a stand against the brutal killings of Christians in Iraq.

The protesters are apparently calling for an end to persecution, including crucifixions, and beheadings by Islamic group, Isis.

The placard demonstration took place outside a Catholic Church in Durban’s Morningside suburb.

Passing motorists hooted in support.

The Islamic State has taken over parts of northern Iraq, and also controls some of Syria.

Christians and members of the Yazidi group have been tortured and massacred. Entire minority communities have been forced to flee.

The activists are also calling for an end to the execution of Christians in parts of Africa.
