A citizen was killed, and another wounded in Bielel locality, South Darfur State, in an attack by militiamen on Sunday. Many criminals have left Nyala and arrived in Bielel after the state’s Governor issued “emergency measures” to curb the rampant insecurity in the capital.

“On Sunday, militiamen fired at Adam El Doma El Safi, south of the capital Nyala, in Bielel locality, when he was on his way to the Nyala market. He died instantly,” one of his relatives told Radio Dabanga. “Mohamed Hassan, his companion was wounded.”

According to the source, many criminals fled South Darfur’s capital, and settled in Bielel, after the government of South Darfur State issued strict security measures on 15 July, in an attempt to curb the rampant insecurity in Nyala. A prohibition of wearing masks, firing guns, and a ban on motorcycles, are part of the security measures. A special Emergency Court was established in Nyala in order to speedily try offenders of the new measures.
