Damboa: Group of concerned youths call for support for lawmaker
Youths in Damboa Local Government area of Borno State, under the umbrella of Damboa Youth Association (DYA) has reacted to the attack on the member representing Damboa State constituency, in the state house of assembly, Hon. Ayemu Lawan Gwasha, by a group under the guise of stakeholders of Damboa.
The Damboa Youth Association led by its Chairman, Alhaji Lawan Zannah Guji told newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital that they did not want to join issues with any group pertaining what was going on in Damboa.
He said it was no news that the whole local government had been going through series of attacks by the insurgents.
According to them, they found it necessary to come out in defense of the lawmaker because those calling for his head did not mean well for Damboa.
The youths said those against the lawmaker were perpetual failures in politics, who had contributed nothing to Damboa local government.
The youths said Hon. Gwasha who has been representing Damboa in the state house of assembly since the return of democracy in 1999 is a true democrat and a grassroots politician.
According to them, Hon. Ayemu Lawan Gwasha has been battling with the humanitarian crises of his constituency since the last attack on Damboa by the insurgents in order to give the people hope for tomorrow but those who had been playing politics with the humanitarian crises in Damboa were busy attempting to rubbish the good things he (Ayemu) had been doing.
“They want to discourage him, but he is full of experience. The allegation that the Hon. Member is not sympathetic to the plight of the people at this time is baseless. If you ask any of those so-called stakeholders to list their contribution or what they were able to do for the people since the beginning of this crises, none of them would be man enough to face the people of Damboa.
“But, we have seen what the Hon. Member has been doing; records are there; each time he goes out to the people, you journalists have always been going to cover his activities. Some of those who are talking only want an opportunity to get something from government and enrich themselves. They have nothing to offer to the people of Damboa local government as far as we are concerned.
“Their allegations are untrue, baseless, malicious, done out of hatred and for greed. We therefore urge the public not to give ears to such, as it is nothing but calculated effort motivated by malice and mischief to tarnish the image of our lawmaker, who has been gaining tremendous support from the generality of our people in Damboa local government for his selfless services and for standing by the people in their hours of needs”, the Chairman, Lawan Zannah said.
The youths therefore, called on the stakeholders to reason and come together to rally round their member and support him for the good work he had been doing for the people, particularly this time that the people of Damboa local government are in serious need of support from those who call themselves leaders in their communities.
