Outgoing Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi was the envy of everyone on Saturday as top Nigerians, who visited to attend his end of tenure event, poured encomiums on him.

Africa’s richest man, Alhaja Aliko Dangote, who was at the event, said he is proud of Obi because he comes from the private sector.

He said it is not easy to do business in Nigeria but Obi succeeded and also went ahead to succeed in governance in a turbulent state like Anambra.

“Even people in Yobe know that Anambra is not a simple state to govern. Anambra is a turbulent state and you have succeeded. I can only urge you to take time off after now to put down your experience in writing so that people can read and learn from your experience”, he said.

Also speaking, Nigeria’s coordinating minister of economy and minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala said “Obi is a man who came, saw and conquered. I envy what he has done, he has a special commendation from the World Bank and I see him as the true face of the Igboman. I can tell you that Obi is among the most enlightened governor in Nigeria today”.

Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who was chairman of the occasion said, “Obi’s government is cognitive success in governance. There is no doubt that Obi’s tenure has brought transformation in Anambra.

“The way to access the performance of a government is to know what the people’s resources has been used for. There is peace, there is security and there is enabling environment; so what are we looking for? There is indisputable evidence of what the governor has done in Anambra”.

Rendering account of his stewardship, Obi said that in the last 7 years, his government did not receive above N620 billion.

He said he was able to use the meagre resources available to him to achieve so much because he was able to cut down expenses in governance.

He said, “as at Friday, we are not owing any contractor, we have also in total been able to save as much as N60 billion for the state. We have set a good foundation for the incoming government, and I pray you all to always support him”.
