Defection Rally: Lanlehin, Others in Show of Shame, Says Oyo APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has described the rally staged in Ibadan on Tuesday by the opposition Accord Party to welcome some defectors into its fold as a show of shame and demonstration of political naivety, failure and expiration of some political players fond of exaggerating their worth before the electorate.

In a statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, the Oyo State chapter of the APC faulted the Accord Party over what it called the opposition party’s notoriety for parading the same set of pretenders and blackmailers as defectors from the APC with a view to misinforming the public and possibly winning the sympathy of the electorate in a fraudulent manner or rather plunging the state into another era of needless crisis as its arrow-head did in 2003.

“The rally was nothing but a show of shame organized by a one-man party which is bent on returning Oyo State to the era of political terrorism. It (the rally) was held to celebrate some politically naive and over-zealous individuals who have penchant for sabotaging genuine and well-defined efforts to improve the quality of lives of the masses since their mantra revolves around individualism and self-aggrandizement.

“As a party, we can only sympathize with Sen. Lanlehin who spent the last three years to destabilize our party only to end up in a ‘one-chance’ transit. Again, we challenge the lawmaker to tell the world what made him to stab Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the back in 2002 and why he chose to remain a betrayer if not greed. If his gubernatorial ambition was the reason for his ignoble record in the progressives fold so far, why has he chosen to be in Accord Party this time only to emerge an errand boy to former Governor Rashidi Ladoja who is a regular guest of the EFCC on account of corrupt practices while in government?

“Even though, we are not in a haste to inundate the public with the detailed exposure of the principal actors in these unending defending dramas, we urge caution as the good people of the state deserve a break from this kind of chicanery and grand delusion at all times. It is unfortunate that in Oyo South Senatorial district today, we have a lawmaker who does not know what to do with the mandate given to him but rather chose to be vindictive over an height which he could not achieve for natural reasons; our party can only apologize over this as we pledge produce a worthy servant in his place in due course,” APC said.

The party therefore urged the electorate in the pacesetter state to be wary of what it called the antics of some self-serving individuals.

“Obviously, members of the public are not ready for a man to take them for a ride as Gov. Mimiko did for Ondo State people when he deluded them with a Labour Party identity for so long while indeed he was working for PDP. The same is the case for Accord Party in Oyo State as its leader only flies AP kite in the day and sleeps under the PDP umbrella in the night. Therefore, voters need to be vigilant and resist any temptation to return the agents of retrogression to power in the 2015 general elections regardless of what they portray as new identity,” the party added.
