Dock workers in Port Sudan threaten to strike
The Dock Workers Corporation in Port Sudan has threatened with a strike unless the labourers’ salaries are raised and the ban on recruitment is lifted.
The Deputy Chairman of the Corporation’s Transport Committee, Mohamed Babikr Breima, said in a press conference on Saturday that there are not enough labourers employed at the port. “Almost all dock workers are complaining about pains in the back, hernia, and haemorrhoids.”
The El Gezira and El Gedaref branches of the Sudanese Farmers Union have threatened not to grow wheat during the next farming season. They demand to be notified about the entity that will finance the wheat cultivation.
