Ebola: Rivers Assembly summons Health Commissioner

The Rivers state House of Assembly has summoned the State Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker to appear before it over the trending epidemic, Ebola Virus.

The summon followed a petition presented by the Deputy Leader of the house, Robbinson Nnam Ewhor who said the House needs to know the preventive measures that has been put in place by the Ministry of Health in the state.

Ewhor said the Commissioner needs to appear before the House to intimate the Assembly on the moves it has been making to stop the outbreak of the virus in the state, adding that the action is in the interest of the people.

Speaker, Otelemaba Amachree however directed that Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker appears before the House this Wednesday.

Similarly, the Rivers state House of Assembly directed the Head of the state Civil Service Commission, Provost and Part-time lecturers of the Rivers state College of Health Sciences and Technology to appear before the House.

Some part-time lecturers in the institution had petitioned the Assembly, asking that their employment be confirmed by the institution after working as part-time for up to ten years and earning the sum of eight thousand naira monthly.

Chairman of the investigative Committee, Gift Nwokocha had submitted its report, recommending that the employment of the part-time lectures be confirmed after years of sacrifice.

However, after taking arguments from members of the House on the proposed recommendations, Speaker of the Assembly, Otelemaba Amachree directed all parties involved to appear before the House for more scrutiny.

The House as part of its resolution further advised the state government to Constitute a governing council for the institution.
