The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Nigerian Prisons Service and other stakeholders Tuesday in Abuja discussed measures to protect prison inmates against the Ebola Virus Disease.

NHRC Executive Secretary Prof. Bem Angwe said those visiting prisons should be screened before they are allowed to come in contact with the inmates.

A representative of the Interior Minister, Mr. Amuga Keftun said there was the need to decongest prisons to prevent the virus from getting to the inmates.

On his part, Comptroller General of Prisons, Aminu Sulley, represented by Deputy Comptroller General Peter Ekpendu urged improved sanitation and hygiene in prisons as well as provision of thermal scanners.
