Ethiopian-born Hanna Godefa Appointed Unicef Goodwill Ambassador

UNICEF Ethiopia has appointed the Ethiopian-born Hanna Godefa, acclaimed for her enthusiastic efforts in fund-raising for charities and such projects as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam(GERD) as goodwill Ambassador of Human Rights.

Hanna signed an agreement with Shadrack Omol, officer-in-charge of UNICEF, to work as a goodwill Ambassador this morning (January 4th) at UNICEF offices. Speaking about Hanna’s appointment, Shadrack Omol said she was selected as ambassador for her exemplary role for her peers.

He said Hanna was selected because of her firm stance on human rights and for the charity works she had accomplished in helping provide children with access to education through the agency of the foundation established in her name. On the occasion, Hanna said “I have always dreamt of helping children but I never expected I will have such a chance. I have an important message to Ethiopian students and that is education is key to their success”.

She said “children are endowed with bright minds; if they are allowed to get good education they are capable of changing the world”. She vowed to do her level best as a goodwill ambassador to ensure that children get balanced diets, safe drinking water, proper hygiene and respect. Hanna, who is 15, resides in Canada with her family. She has organized the sending of 400, 000 pencils to Ethiopian students and 600 books collected through various charity galas and events. Hanna who recently visited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is known for known for her moving speeches at events organised for the sale of bonds for GERD. UNICEF has 30 international, 11 continental and 200 national goodwill ambassadors.
