Ethiopian female sprinters dominate Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2012

Unlikely males, Ethiopian sprinters dominates in the female category of the 5th edition of Airtel Delhi Half Marathon race by surpassing close contestant Kenyan athletes as the first two spots were sealed by Ethiopian racers while third place is cemented by Kenyan racer Helah Kiprop, who was the winner of last year’s Delhi half marathon.

Ethiopian athlete Yimer Wude won the gold medal by finishing the 10.8 k.m. long Airtel Delhi half marathon race in one hour eleven minutes and ten seconds (01:11:10).

“I am satisfied with my performance as here atmosphere was hot and humid and conditions were different,” said Wude, who was participate second time in India.

She fininshed at 6th last year’s event.

Waganesh Amare (Ethiopia) won silver by finishing the race in 01:11:12. She was a surprise package in this race who was participating first time in marathon race. Helah won bronze by finishing off at 01:11:18.

All the three sprinters told media that their main aims are to win the AIFF world athletic championship to be held in Moscow in 2013.
