Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, yesterday said that the administration is indebted to the tune of N400billion.
The money is owed contractors who had executed projects in various parts of the nation’s capital.
Senator Bala made this statement when he received a delegation from the Nigeria Society of Engineers, NSE, in his office, yesterday.
While commending the NSE for the visit, he noted that the FCT Administration was the highest employer of engineers in Nigeria, as virtually all the mandate secretariats are manned by competent engineers who had distinguished
themselves in the service.
Senator Bala said that 90 to 95 percent of projects in the FCT were engineering based, especially the laudable Land Swap Programme, which would provide huge sums of money for the FCT after the success of primary and secondary investments had been concluded.
He advised the NSE national body to device a means of punishing its members who compromised on the integrity of the profession.
In his remark, the NSE President, Mr. Isaac Olurunfemi, said he led the delegation of the Executive members of the society on courtesy visit to appreciate the minister on his efforts to transforming the FCT.
He urged the minister to support the forthcoming engineers’ conference to be hosted by Nigeria, saying that over 5,000 engineers from across the world had indicated interest in the event.
