The Federal Executive Council (FEC) is expected to ratify the National Infrastructure Master Plan (NIMP) at its weekly meeting today, Wednesday, September 3, in Abuja.
The Minister of National Planning (NPC), Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, who gave the hint during a visit to the Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) in Abuja, also said the plan had already been approved by state governors at the last National Economic Council (NEC) meeting last month.
Essentially, the NIMP aims among other things, to check unnecessary duplication of infrastructure among the various tiers of government.
He said he was at SURE-P to solicit assistance in the area of project monitoring and evaluation as well as generating data on victims of insurgency.
He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the establishment of the programme, adding that the initiative had restored the hope of Nigerians in their well-being.
In a statement by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Abdulrahman Abdulrauf, he noted that the commission was planning to embark on project inspection, monitoring and evaluation of federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in no distant time but argued “our commission cannot go it alone and that is why we need your collaboration.”
