FGI-CRPC award contributors
The Foundation of The Gambia Incorporation and Consumer Rights and Protection Chapter (FGI – CRPC) during their third annual congress awarded several institutions and individuals that have closely contributed to consumer right protection at a ceremony held at the Girl’s Guide Hall in Kanifing.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sulayman Madi Sillah, the CEO of FGI-CRPC said that the awards are dedicated to all the contributors towards consumer right and protection. According to him, everybody is a consumer and has a right and that right should be protected.
He informed that the focus of his institution is to fight for people to have electricity, good water supply and other social amenities.
And in doing so, he said, they have a close relationship with Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA), NAWEC and the GSM operators, all geared towards promoting the right of the consumer.
Sillah pointed out they have been conducting sensitisations on Consumer Rights and Protection (CRP) and have been working with women groups, media and local government officials.
In the media, the CEO of FGI-CRPC told the gathering that the Daily Observer Newspaper has taken the lead in sensitising the public about CRP and the electronic media has also contributed to the realistion of this goal.
Institutions that received awards at the event include PURA, Banjul City Council, KMC, MOCI, Gambia Competition Commission, Daily Observer Newspaper, the Point Newspaper, West Coast Radio, Foroyaa Newspaper and individual awardees.
Observer Newspaper was awarded a certificate for their outstanding services, contributions, and support towards the development of consumer protection in The Gambia, and a certificate of appreciation to the managing director of the Daily Observer Newspaper, Momodou Saidy, on his outstanding support in promoting consumer awareness culture, consumer right protection and consumer related issues in The Gambia.
Wurra Bah, marketing manager of the Daily Observer, who received the awards, on behalf of the Observer family, thanked the Foundation for the awards. He then assured them that the Observer Newspaper will continue to work, in partnership with the FGI-CRPC.
Pa Modou Faal, a senior reporter at the Observer Newspaper received a certificate of appreciation for his contribution towards consumer right and protection, which he dedicated to the entire Observer family and his family, and as a media personnel, he will continue to promote CRP in his media house.
