Militiamen gang raped five displaced women in Central Darfur on Wednesday.

“On Wednesday evening, five women of the Nierteti camps were assaulted by a group of militiamen in the area of Mulgawa, west of Nierteti town,” a camp resident reported to Radio Dabanga from the Nierteti North camp.

“The women were working on their farms, when the attackers raped the women alternately. They then robbed them of their belongings and farming tools.”

The displaced criticised the lack of security in the locality and the continued abuse against women.

She also criticised Unamid for not protecting the displaced when they are tending their farmlands, or leave the camps to collect firewood in Nierteti locality.
