Flood: 4 Killed, 6,000 Rendered Homeless in Delta
No fewer than 6,000 persons were yesterday in Issele-uku community near
Asaba, Delta State, rendered homeless, while six houses were destroyed and
four persons feared killed following a torrential rainfall which resulted in heavy
flood that started at about 2:30pm.
It was gathered that the rain was first of its kind since the beginning of this
year, after 2012 flood disaster that wrecked havoc across the country.
Some of the victims who sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving
treatment in private hospitals recounted their ordeal:
“The rain started in a very funny way and we thought it was going to stop after
some time but only to intensify its seriousness accompanied in heavy flood and
we were trapped midway while we were returning to our various houses. It was
the first of its kind and we have never seen such rainfall since the beginning of
this year 2014.”
