Speaking in an interview with Observer Sports this week, the chairman of the community’s Sports Committee, Lamin Darboe, who  anticipated a wonderful atmosphere for both teams to showcase their talents, said: “This football game is going to be the best of its kind. The trophy is named after Momodou Salieu Gomez, the alkalo of Manjai.” Darboe further added that, all the logistics in terms of preparations have been taken care of by the Committee.

Manjai Kunda’ nawettan competitions have been affected by violence and hooliganism in recent years.

Speaking on the matter, , who warned against such behaviours, urged players, officials and fans of all the competing teams to exercise patience and discipline during and after the games.

Darboe then  that strong disciplinary measures have already been put in place to combat hooliganism. According to him, anyone found wanting would be fined D500, but he nevertheless assured that there will be maximum security at the games.

Speaking further, Darboe disclosed that the draw for the group stages of the competitions have been held and 33 teams were drawn in eight groups of four teams each, with the exception of Group H, that consists of five teams. “We have divided these teams into eight groups from A to H and each group consists of four teams expect that of Group H that includes the Old Hands with five teams.

During the first round, any team that finished bottom of the group will be relegated with the exemption of the Old Hands. This means, should the Old Hands finished bottom of their group, the team that lies just ahead of them in fourth would have to negotiate their place in the playoffs the following season.
