The Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko Foundation (AMWF), a Sokoto-based NGO,  has donated 400 carts and 200 wheel barrows worth over N 25 million to some unemployed youths in the state.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state.
The State Coordinator of the foundation, Alhaji Abubakar Yabo, said the  gesture was to alleviate the suffering of the beneficiaries, most of whom, he said, were indigent.
“The aim of the gesture is to empower the beneficiaries to become self- reliant and productive in order to be useful to themselves and the society.
“It is also to complement the efforts of the government in reducing poverty and unemployment and their attendant negative consequences,” he said.
Yabo also said that the foundation was sourcing its funds solely from the personal donations of Gov. Aliyu Wamakko and other well-meaning indigenes of the state.
He cited the recent donation of 600 bags of rice and 300 bags of millet to the foundation by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, for distribution free to indigent persons across the state.
He also disclosed that Sen. Ibrahim Gobir (APC-Sokoto) had recently donated N1 million to the foundation.
Gobir represents Sokoto East Senatorial district in the National Assembly.
“All these efforts are aimed at further alleviating the suffering of the people and complementing the efforts of the government in delivering services to the people,” the coordinator said.
