Ghana’s incumbent President John Dramani Mahama has been re-elected with 50.7 per cent of the vote.

That’s according to results posted on the Electoral Commission’s Facebook page.

But Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party lead by Nana Akufo-Addo has accused the governing party of conspiring with Commission staff and fixing Friday’s vote.

Observers said the election for a new president and parliament had passed off in a largely peaceful manner.

Ghana which is a top exporter of cocoa and gold has one of the world’s fastest growing economies. Turnout was put at roughly 80 per cent.
