Coalition spokesperson MacDonald Chipenzi says it was unacceptable that Zambia did not have a broad based constitution 50 years after Independence.
He said the grand coalition will hold an indaba to plot the way forward on the constitution.
“It is unacceptable that 50 years after independence that Zambians do not have a broadly agreed people based constitution,” Chipenzi said.
“The fact that there are demands for a revised people driven constitution clearly shows that the current constitutional framework does not enjoy confidence of the majority of the people. This is bad for stability in the country and for investment.”
The constitution making process is slowly becoming talking shop with government completely closing its ears to the calls for a constitution before the 2016 elections.
