MASERU- Between 7pm and 8pm this evening, electricity was cut off in most areas in Maseru including Ha Thetsane, Masianokeng, Lithabaneng and Roma. It is not yet clear what the course for the nationwide blackout was.

Shortly after this, gunshots could be heard in some areas of the city, whereafter, electricity came back on.

SADC has stated that they will urgently deploy an observer from their Politics, Defence and Security team to help monitor the deteriorating security and political situation in the country.
