UPND-President-Hakainde-Hichilema-addressing-the-media-flanked-by-senior-officials-27-03-2014Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says the poor maize marketing season by the Patriotic Front government is haunting the Zambian people through high mealie meal prices.

Hichilema said Zambians should rally together and kick out the Patriotic Front government at the next elections as they had failed in managing the affairs of the country.

He said times were bound to be harder for ordinary Zambians as prices of commodities continued to rise.

“We know that the price of the basic commodities has increased even after the intervention of the President the mealie meal prices have not gone down,” he said.

“It is all because the PF government has mishandled the marketing of maize; they exported too much maize without regard to domestic consumption.”

He added: “Zambians should brace themselves for harder times.”

Recently, Agriculture Minister Wilbur Simuusa announced that government had lent a freeway approach to the export of maize beyond the borders of Zambia.

Farmers have reservations selling maize to the Food Reserve Agency as the price is deemed unattractive and also it takes a long time to receive the payment.
