I hope this reputable newspaper would publish my story on how the state security service {SSS} arrested me, mistook me as a member of the dreaded BOKO HARAM. I am a corp member Batch A with state code:11A/0559 serving in Taraba state.
I left my place of primary assignment on the 10th of February,2012 heading for Jalingo to attend Passing out Parade {P.O.P.} not aware that it was later suspended due to security matter.
So on my arrival in Jalingo, I lodged in Liberty Motel, room 12. I have been there until 13th February, 2012 when around 2:00pm some two persons stormed my room and demanded my I.D. cards.
These men had identified themselves as SSS so without wasting time I showed them my I.D. card yet they were still suspicious, thus they paraded me to the NYSC headquarters to confirm whether I am really a copper.
Having arrived there, I was confirmed by no one but our state coordinator Hajia Zainab A.Isah
Then they told her that they suspected me to be a member of Boko Haram because they heard me talking over phone in the mid-night, even calling names like Kabiru Sokoto and discussing issues bordering on Boko Haram
THENCE they took me to their office in Police Headquarters Jalingo for further interrogation, there I told them that I have no business with Boko Haram and I don’t know anything about the organization apart from what I read in newspapers and heard over electronic media.
Again, I told them the reason why they even heard me discussing Boko Haram in the mid-night that we had a group on facebook called MURYAR TALAKA {VOICE OF MASSES} and we normally hold phone conference which we do it free on MTN Network and everyone knows that the conference begins from 12:30am to 4:30am.
At the end, they let me go after taking my statement however, I gave them some money, I don’t have any evidence to prove it.
Now I wish the world will see the kind of security we had in Nigeria.
I am sure there are many innocent people who are not lucky like me that are now wrongly detained by either SSS or C.I.D.
This might be the reason why people of Maiduguri and other stats that have security problem are complaining about over handedness of our security agents and that is why citizens are not given the state security full support and cooperation.
