On Tuesday, junior doctors at the hospital of El Geneina, capital of West Darfur State, embarked on an open-ended strike, in protest against the deterioration of the working environment at the hospital, and the delayed payment of their incentives.

“The doctors had given the State Ministry of Health four days to respond to their demands,” one of the striking doctors reported to Radio Dabanga. “When the Ministry ignored the reply, we went on strike.”

“Earlier, we had submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Health calling for the provision of life-saving drugs and emergency items, an increase of the monthly incentives from SDG300 to SDG600 ($105), and the commitment to pay the incentives on a regular basis, at the latest on the 10th day of each month.”
