Speaking during a brief telephone chat, he said, “I think we have the best crop of players here in Faro because everyone is showing us the signs that they are ready to represent their fatherland at the Cup of Nations,” Keshi said.

“It will be wonderful to have all the players in South Africa, but unfortunately football rules forbid that. So, that means it is impossible to take everyone to the competition.

“Though, we now have about 90 percent of the squad, the battle for places in the team is still fierce as the players are making last minutes efforts to board the plane to South Africa,” he pointed out.

The Big Boss, as he is fondly referred t, further informed that the friendly against Cape Verde this week was aimed at perfecting the team’s strategies, saying that the friendly would not be used to make the final list.

“The game against Cape Verde has nothing to do with the list. We need that game to toughen our players and put to practice our strategies ahead of the competition.

“We have been working hard here in Faro to ensure that Nigeria makes an appreciable impact in South Africa,” he assured.

The former Hawks of Togo sweat merchant, however, expressed joy with the full house of players at the national team’s camp in Faro, Portugal.
