Lagos to ‘speed up’ road repairs

Lagos State Government has said that it will take advantage of the subsided rainfall to commence aggressive repair work on various roads across the state.

The Executive Chairman of Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Mr. Gbenga Akintola, who disclosed this, reiterated the commitment of the corporation to carry out maintenance work on roads in the metropolis.

He explained that the corporation earmarked 1,400 roads for repair this year, adding that repair work has been carried out in 580 roads between January and August this year.

Akintola also said construction work at the yet to be commissioned Badagry  asphalt plant has made tremendous progress,  adding that the Imota plant has produced asphalt which has been utilized for the maintenance of over 40 roads in Epe and Ikorodu local government areas of the state.

He explained that 10 of the projects awarded by the Ministry of works to the corporation have been completed.

He said seven of the completed roads are in Ifako Ijaiye local government, two in Amuwo-Odofin and one LAMATA project.  .

Other projects currently under construction are – Adewunmi Adebiyi and Oba Adegboyega Streets, Ketu, Soluyi Street, Gbagada Phase 1, Moshood Street Ketu, Abel Oreniyi and Gafari Balogun, Salvation, Opebi, Ladipo Kuku Street, Ikeja and Alhaja Abass Street Ogudu.
