Liverpool launch new kit
The memorial flame and number ’96’ are now printed on the back of each shirt in recognition of those who died in the tragedy in 1989.
That’s a change from the current strip where the flame – a reference to the permanent memorial near the Shankly Gates at Anfield – is directly attached to the club badge.
The Hillsborough Family Support Group were consulted by the club’s new kit suppliers, Warrior, during the design process and agreed to the alteration.
The separate Hillsborough Justice Campaign believes they should also have been consulted on the design before the club sanctioned the changes.
The new deal with Warrior is the first collaboration with the Boston-based company and is worth a £25m-a-year to Liverpool and represents a British record.
