Liverpool out to poach Alessandro Del Piero from Sydney FC
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was left frustrated at not being able to replace Andy Carroll, who joined West Ham on loan on transfer deadline day, and has now seemingly turned to the veteran Italian.
Del Piero had reportedly rejected a move to join Southampton earlier today to sign for Sydney FC, and is expected to be unveiled at the Australian club tomorrow.
But the latest reported approach from Liverpool could persuade the World Cup winner to postpone his final decision.
Del Piero has has previously eluded to his desire to play in the Premier League, and Liverpool could offer him one final crack at the big-time.
The former Juventus forward’s agent Stefano Del Piero, who is also his brother, met with Sydney FC chief executive Tony Pignata on Monday, where the A League side reportedly offered around £1.3million per season compared to Southampton’s two-year contract worth £1million plus bonuses.
It is not yet known if Liverpool have officially approached Del Piero with an offer, but it is sure any potential move to Anfield will be given a lot of thought by the Serie A legend.
