Gweru – Youths in the Midlands South constituency have blasted former MDC-T secretary Tendai Biti’s Renewal Team saying they must be spurned from holding divisive rallies in the province.
Biti and his Renewal Team, the seemingly troubled youths said, is designed disturb the struggle for democracy which they say is around the corner, for the mere love of money.
The youngsters made the aired the sentiments at the commemoration of youths day at a local hotel last week.
The province’s secretary for information, Cornelius Seliphiwe urged his fellow youths not to betray their hard earned party’s political vision and democracy.
“I urge the youths to ignore those who call for leadership renewal as that has a negative impact on the achievement of proper democracy. They are indeed disturbing the attainment of a free Zimbabwe. It is up to us the youths to see to it that the party is not jeopardised by succumbed factionalism. So there is need for us to pave way to total democracy through unity of purpose,’’ said Seliphiwe.
The secretary for Gender in the former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai’s Harare Province Yvonne Musarurwa who was part of the gathering condemned the continuous massive closure of companies and pushed for protest by youths against Zanu PF‘s failure to honor its promised two million jobs made during the ruling party’s campaign before election.
“The only way out is to demonstrate against Zanu PF because the jobs they promised millions of Zimbabweans are far from being delivered. We have since realized that what President Mugabe’s party was promising is nothing but hogwash,’’ she said adding that the 90 year old leader has no indication as to how jobs can be created.
A National Executive member in the MDC-T and guest speaker only identified as Chidhakwa echoed the same sentiments putting that his party must utilise events such as the Day of the African Child to commemorate their own heroes.
‘’There are some MDC-T members who lost their lives for and in the name of our party, they also died fighting for the freedom of the country. May I take this opportunity to urge you not to forget the likes of Tonderai Ndira,’’ he said.
The youths also settled that Biti must never be given room to hold any meeting in the Province.
