People’s Democratic Party President George Mpombo says the ruling Patriotic Front will do better to just campaign instead of fighting opposition candidates that they feel are a threat from re-contesting their seats.
Mpombo said the Electoral Commission of Zambia deserved commendation for resisting PF machinations to block opposition candidates whose seats were nullified from re-contesting their seats.
The PF is still crying over re-adopted opposition candidates after the ruling party pulled every string to block the former Members of Parliament from being re-adopted but the ruling party finds itself pitting weaker candidates against heavies in the opposition.
PF Zambezi West candidate Christabel Ng’imbu is still fighting the courts to strike UPND candidate Charles Kakoma off the ballot as she seems to have hinged her chances on eliminating him from the election.
However, Ng’imbu will have to face her nightmare after the ECZ ruled that Kakoma should be allowed to re-contest the September, 11 poll.
“It is a very sad story that the PF is frustrating the holding of elections in areas where they know that they could be trounced,” Mpombo said.
“Instead of frustrating, I think they should put up a vigorous campaign so that they can compete rather than frustrating the will of the people.”
He also paid tribute to the ECZ for standing firm on the matter.
“Otherwise ECZ should be commended they deserve to have kudos from the people for sticking their heads out in support of justice,” he said.
Among the re-adopted former MPs are Victoria Kalima (MMD, Kasenengwa), Eustackio Kazonga (MMD, Vubwi), Sydney Chisanga (MMD, Mkushi North), Lucky Mulusa (MMD, Solwezi Central) and Kakoma.
