The Governor-Elect of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has pledged to continue with the projects embarked upon in Ado-Ekiti by the current administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Fayose, who spoke on Saturday during this year’s annual celebration of Idiroko festival, at the palace of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, has also commenced distribution of 10,000 Helmets to commercial motor cyclists (Okada riders), to protect them against possible head injury.
He told the bike riders that he would not want to drive them out of the roads as alternative had not been put in place by the Fayemi’s administration.
Fayose, who promised to complete the multi-million naira ongoing palace pavilion as one of the projects to mark his one year in office commended Oba Adejugbe for his leadership role and love for his people.
“There is no doubt that Ado Ekiti will continue to be relevant in the state because of its numerical strength and the fact that it is the capital of our state.
“My performance will surpass what I had been able to achieve during my first term in office,” he said.
While appreciating the people of Ado Ekiti for voting for him in the June 21 governorship election, he appealed to them to support the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidates in the 2O15 general elections.
Fayose commended Fayemi for contributing to the development of the state, saying every government that had ruled the state since its creation had contributed their quota to the development of the state.
In his own speech, the monarch who thanked Fayose for coming to the occassion also thanked Fayemi for his commendable development of Ado-Ekiti.
At another event in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose promised to promote the safety of Okada riders because of their contribution to the transport sector of the state.
“And true to our promise,even before swearing-in,your safety is important and I’ve decided to do this out of my personal volition to assist you and to ensure that you are duly protected,” he said.
The Governor-elect also charged the cyclists to be law abiding citizens and refrain from disobeying traffic rules and regulations.
Omoyajowo Ayodele who spoke on behalf of the cyclists thanked the Governor-elect for the gesture and expressed their association’s support for the Governor towards moving the state forward.
They however requested the Governor-elect to create a“department”that would be overseeing their plight on assuming office.
