Niger Police To Deploy 3,563 For Niger East Senatorial Bye Election

Niger state Police Command have said that about 3,569 Officers and men would be deployed for the forthcoming Niger East Senatorial by-election scheduled for 30th August, with a view to ensuring a hitch free election in the affected 99 Wards, 1,122 Polling units and Collation Centres across the Eastern senatorial district of the state.
In a Press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ibrahim Abiodun Gambari a copy of which was made available to news men in Minna, it said that apart from the men that would be deployed, very senior Officers across the Police formations in the state would play supervisory roles during the election.
According to him, this includes units of Police Mobile Force personnel, which would be on stand-by at the headquarters of the state Police Command, Minna and the affected Area Command headquarters, while men would be drawn from the department of Finance and administration, the state Criminals Investigations Department, SCID, Counter Terrorism and Anti Bomb Squad respectively.
“In view of the fore going, adequate security measures have been put in place , officers and men will be deployed to all vulnerable areas and polling units around the senatorial district , while the Command advises the people of the nine affected local government to maintain peace and caution their wards not to be used as political thugs.
Violators will be made to face the full wrath of the Law. And part of the proactive measures being taking by the Command is to organise stake holders meeting with representatives of all the political parties participating in the election including the Independent Electoral Commission’s officials in the state so that the people can be sensitised on the Electoral Act,” the PPRO maintained.
