The police in Anambra State have discovered the body of Mr James Emeka Iloenyensi, from Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, who was kidnapped on November 25, last year.

The decomposed body of the 84-year old man was found at Nneyi forest in Umuleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Two kidnap suspects, held in police custody, led the Commissioner of Police, Usman Gwary, to where the body was dumped after collecting a ransom of 1.5 million Naira (about 9,100 dollars).

From the Headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Awkuzu, Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police with his team stormed Nneyi Forest in Umuleri.

It was a day of grief for the family of the late man, as a member of the family recounts events before the man was kidnapped.

“Late Pa Iloenyensi’s birthday celebration was a few days away and preparations were in top gear when he was kidnapped,” the family member told reporters.

The arrest of two of the kidnap suspects by the police brought about the revelation on the whereabouts of the late man.

Four of the kidnap suspects are still at large while the arrested two led the police to the scene of crime.

One of the kidnap suspects, who admitted being part of the operation, confessed to the crime but denied killing the elderly man.

The police cordoned the area off and took the body away, but the family insisted on immediate transfer into a coffin for burial rites while investigations continue, a request the police commissioner obliged.

“Much need not to be said since investigation has just commenced,” the police commissioner told reporters.

He reiterate the police resolve to fight crime and criminality in the state and warned criminals to steer clear of Anambra, as his command was battle ready to flush them out.
