Opinion Piece: Why reports of a bloated public service are misleading
In South Africa
Jul 31st, 2014
Ever since President Jacob Zuma announced the creation of new ministries in May, a lot of commentary has emerged through media reports seemingly suggesting that increasing the size of the Cabinet has resulted in a “bloated” public service.
The SA Government News Agency is a news service, published by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS). The people of South Africa have a right to information, irrespective of their class, colour or creed. The Government has a mandate to ensure that its entire people have access to information. In order to make this possible, SAnews.gov.za was established to provide quick and easy access to articles and feature stories aimed at keeping the public informed about the implementation of government's mandate.
An achievement of note for SAnews.gov.za was the clinching of a National Productivity Institute (NPI) Merit Award, in 2000, in recognition of the work it has done in disadvantaged communities.
