On Monday, elements of the paramilitary Popular Defence Forces (PDF) killed a university student in the village of Soda, near Hashaba, in North Darfur.

“Ismail Mohamed Hassan, student at the University of El Fasher, was shot dead by PDF members nearby Soda village on Monday evening,” one of his relatives told Radio Dabanga.

“Hassan had been herding cows outside the village. When he was on his way back to Soda, the PDF troops stopped him, and accused him of cattle theft. When he denied this, they fired at him. He died instantly.”

The relative said that the killers then took Hassan’s body to the Khazan garrison. “There the body was refused, whereupon they headed towards El Fasher.”
