Greyford MondeAgriculture deputy minister Greyford Monde has admitted that there are still challenges in paying farmers that supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency.

Monde said government was still trying to work out a quicker way of clearing the arrears for the farmers who have been making vain trips to the bank.

He said the government was aware that farmers were reluctant to sell their maize to government because of the chaotic payment system.

Monde said his ministry would liaise with the Food Reserve Agency to resolve the impasse.

Farmers have often endured long waits before they are paid their money for supplying government with maize.

“Yes there are problems regarding payments, but it is something that we are working and resolve very soon,” Monde said.
