Policeman, three others shot as gunmen kidnap expatriate at Ondo varsity

Gunmen on Thursday night shot four men, including a policeman, during a kidnap operation at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

Two Syrians were kidnapped in the operation. The victims are employees of Charvet Construction Company, which is handling the university Senate building.

The hoodlums were said to have driven into the campus in a Mercedes Benz car, shooting indiscriminately.

In no time, they swooped on the Syrians who were in a Nissan Xterra SUV with registration No. KTU 705 AL. They shot the SUV driver in the leg. The Syrians were at the construction site at the time the gunmen struck.

The policeman, identified as Olajide, and three others were shot as the gunmen made to escape the scene with their victims.

They also escaped with the Nissan SUV which has since been recovered by the police.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident.

He said the wounded were receiving treatment in different hospitals.

The PPRO said the bandits abandoned the Mercedes Benz they drove to the scene and escaped with their victims’ three cell phones and N400,000.

Ogodo said that efforts were on to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.

Spokesman for the University, Sola Imoru also confirmed the incident.
