PP deputy SG Frank Mwenefumbo files nomination papers, to contest as independent candidate despite calls to pull out
BLANTYRE (MaraPost)–Malawi’s ruling People’s Party (PP) Deputy Secretary General, Frank Mwenefumbo will contest for Karonga Central Parliamentary seat on an independent ticket, come May polls.
Mwnefumbo told MaraPost that it is his Constitutional right to contest in the area despite the party asking him to pull out.
He said, “I have decided to contest and nothing will stop me from contesting. I am contesting as an independent candidate. I want to represent myself as an independent candidate.
People will judge on May 20.”
Mwenefumbo has already filed his nominations papers.
PP candidate is Deputy Minister of Economic Planning Dr. Cornelius Mwalwanda, who was declared winner over Mwenefumbo during the party’s primary elections.
His decision is poised to split votes and diminish the party’s chances of winning the parliamentary seat.
“I am still a member of the People’s Party. I will not resign,” he said.
