The political associate to former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Alhaji Hamidu Mahmoud, on Monday said Malam Nuhu Ribadu did not join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to get an automatic ticket but to contribute to the development of Adamawa State.

Alhaji Mahmoud had obtained the expression of interest and nomination forms to contest in the Adamawa State PDP governorship primaries scheduled for September 6.

He said, “The framers of the PDP Constitution did not insert the waiver clause in anticipation of Nuhu Ribadu, it is a principle of general application. So, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu having joined the party is expected to enjoy this waiver clause that is in the PDP Constitution. We have applied for the waiver and we are awaiting the decision of the party on that.

“We are not aware that the President wants Ribadu, it was some PDP Chieftains in the state that called on Ribadu to come and contest for the governorship of the state. So, the question of the President wanting Ribadu does not arise in this case.”

Some PDP chieftains during a meeting convened by Concerned Youth for Good Governance in Yola, endorsed Ribadu.

Speaking at the meeting, the leader of the group, Isa Ibrahim Toungo, called on all Adamawa indigenes and their friends to support the emergence of Ribadu as the candidate of the PDP in the next gubernatorial election.

He said Adamawa needs to be governed by an honest and fearless leader who could break the jinx of under development and implement policies and programs that could transform the state and tackle corruption by government officials.
